Gary Beevers

Gary Beevers was born in Clovis, nm and raised in Melrose, nm where he started playing the steel guitar at an early age of 8 or 9,  after going to midway dance hall,  halfway between Clovis and portals  with his parents and listening to bands like Hank Thompson and Bob Wills.  He would come home and take his mom's guitar and get a kitchen butter knife and run it along the strings to make it sound like a steel guitar.  Then along came the Waldrip family out of Clovis.  They would drive to Melrose and teach Hawaiian {steel} guitar, piano, guitar, accordion and fiddle. Gary took about a year and a half of lessons, and then went out on his own playing by ear. Finally got with some kids from school,   Ronny & David Fouts, and they would go to the Fouts Cafe on the highway and play for hours.

Gary now lives in Clovis, nm and has played in many different places.  Spent 7 years in Germany playing for our troops in the 60's.  Played probably every club in Clovis, in particular the old boot heel {caravan Clovis}.  Played the golden nugget in Las Vegas, NV.  The caravan east in Albuquerque.  In Colorado Springs & Denver, Colorado. 
Worked with artists such as Barbara Mandrel, Freddy Heart, Bobby Bare, Lonzo & Oscar, played on Leanne Rimes, Blue & Unchained Melody albums.  He also has several of his own steel guitar instrumental cd's out.  

In the mean time he worked for American National Insurance Co.  For 25 years.  Now retired and plays for most anyone that calls him.   But most of the time he plays for the best country/western swing band in this part of the country,   The Delk Band.   It’s great. Come see us sometime.   Thank you
