Joe Getzwiller’s 60th Birthday Party– Benson, AZ
Saturday, October 22nd found The Delk Band in Benson, AZ to play for a surprise birthday party for Joe Getzwiller. The Delk Band’s West Camp Crew made the trip to Benson. Bucky Allred, Dee ford and Ty Martin came in from Silver City and Joe and Diane, Mark and Stacey and Jim Tomlinson came in from Las Cruces.
We set up in the Benson VFW Hall and were ready to go by 6:30 in the evening. You need to know that Joe Getzwiller loves our music and did not know we would be playing anywhere near Benson that evening. The plan called for Joe’s family and friends to be with Joe at the Palace Bar on the main drag in Benson. The VFW is immediately behind the Palace Bar.
At 6:45, we were given to sign that Joe and company were on their way to the VFW Hall because there was a local band playing. So we cranked up the volume and the drums were blaring, the bass was booming, the piano was twanging and Dee’s guitar was out of tune and loud. We kept up that rift for several minutes and when Joe walked in the door, we stopped, Mark clicked off Time Changes Everything and the dance was on.
Joe Getzwiller could not have been more surprised. He turned 60 with his family and friends dancing to the music of The Delk Band. Joe was muy contento and we had a great time too.
